Tucker Headlight

Postby guest » Sat Mar 26, 2005 11:37 am

Hi,

I am a car enthusiast, but know very little about Tuckers. I have read that they had a movable third headlight that tracked with the steering. I have a headlight that is mounted on a bar (apx 30" long with two mounting arms), and moves with linkage that goes through the bar to what looks like a small gearbox. The only markings on the piece is the name (Pilot-Ray “Lights the way”) and (“The International Controlled Light Co.”) These are stamped in an oval shape on the top of the lamp shell. I can supply digital photos if someone can help me identify this part. Please e-mail me at colo80539@aol.com

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tucker Headlight

The center Pilot Ray headlight is numbered but it has no bearing on the serial number of the car.
On Tucker's Serial Number 1001 through 1025 this light was controled by linkage from the left front wheel. On cars above 1025 the light was controled by cable from the right front wheel. The earlier set up was definitely a better arrangement however it was more costly.
Micro switches in back of the bulb controlled when the light would go on and off. These could be adjusted if necessary. The headlights had to be on high beam and the steering wheel turned 10 degrees off center for light to come on.

Tucker center headlight

Postby Quest » Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:40 am

Hi, I'm trying to find out how much one of these center headlights would cost if you could find a NOS one. Are there any around? Is there a place to get NOS parts? Thanka, Naomi
